If there is one brand that has blazed a trail of growth in the last one year in the Indian phone market then it is Oppo. Well, apart from Apple which too has seen big gains. But Oppo has been really impressive. The latest IDC market report puts its market share in India at 13.9 per cent with a yearly growth of little over 47 per cent. This growth is probably the reason why Oppo, unlike what we have seen earlier, is launching its flagship phones — the Find X8 and the Find X8 Pro — in India on the same day of their global launch. And these are indeed flagship phones, coming in with Hasselblad-tuned cameras and top-tier MediaTek Dimensity 9400 chipset.
They are not perfect, something I will discuss and you will notice as you go through this review, but they are mighty impressive.
In terms of specs and features, the Find X8 phones are loaded to gills. They come equipped with the MediaTek Dimensity 9400 chipset, which is making a lot of waves due to its impressive benchmark numbers. The bezels on the screen are thin and uniform, the display tech seems to be top-tier and the batteries are big, complete with support for wireless charging. Of course, the real star is the camera system. Tuned using Hasselblad technology — read Hasselblad colour science and image processing — the cameras in the Find X8 and the Find X8 Pro can click impressive photos. In a way, as I used the two phones, the cameras here made me fall in love with mobile photography once again.
To my eyes both phones look good. But the Find X8 Pro has a slightly more premium finish, even though I like the cleaner and straighter lines of the Find X8 more. In this review, I have used the Find X8 in Space Black and the Find X8 Pro in Pearl White. The Oppo Find X8 measures 157.35 74.33 7.85 mm, while the Find X8 Pro is slightly bigger with dimensions of 162.27 76.67 8.24 mm.
Now, the measurements are not the only difference in their design.
First, let’s discuss the Find X8. If you compare it with the Pro in terms of specifications, you will notice it is a bit smaller— and in use too you can feel the difference. It is more compact – as it should be compared to the Pro version. Weighing around 193 grams, it feels surprisingly lightweight in the palm, especially considering it houses a large camera setup. When we reviewed the Find X7 Ultra, one issue with the design was the camera island, which caused the device to wobble when laid flat. However, the Find X8 — and even the Find X8 Pro — feature a sleek camera module that doesn’t make the phone wobble much when placed on a table.
The Find X8 Pro is slightly heavier than the Find X8 but not by much. Day after day as I used to, it did not strain my palms even when I watched videos on it for long durations. The Pro’s camera island, while also sleek, houses a quad-camera setup compared to the triple-camera setup on the Find X8. Hence, it is slightly bigger and a tiny bit taller.

Additionally, both devices feature a matte finish on the frame as well as the rear glass. Although the finish on the Pro has a velvety feel to it and has marble-like texture in the white variant. The Find X8, in comparison, features a more regular finish, say somewhat like a slate.
Both devices are also fingerprint-resistant and you wouldn’t mind them using without a case, that is if you are brave enough to use an expensive phone without a case or cover. The build quality is top-notch and both come certified to resist water and dust. Interestingly both phones carry two IP certifications — IP69 and IP68, noting that they both can withstand submersion in water for up to 1.5 metres as well as can resist hot water jet spray of up to 80 degrees Celsius.
Oppo Find X8 Pro
While both phones feature an alert slider — which is really convenient — the Find X8 Pro introduces a new Quick Button. This allows users to launch the camera, zoom, and perform similar functions, somewhat akin to the Capture Button introduced with the iPhone 16 series. I will take a closer look into the Quick Button’s functionality in detail later.
Overall, both the Find X8 and Find X8 Pro feature sleek, comfortable designs and solid build quality. Personally, I preferred the Find X8 because of its compact size, which fits perfectly in my smaller palms. That said, the larger Find X8 Pro is also comfortable to use and does not feel cumbersome at all.
The Oppo Find X8 features a 6.59-inch AMOLED display, while the Find X8 Pro boasts a slightly larger 6.78-inch AMOLED display. Both displays are incredibly smooth and bright, with a peak brightness of up to 4500 nits, and offer excellent visibility even under direct sunlight. While both displays are impressive, I was particularly impressed with the slimmer bezels. Oppo has designed the bezels to be symmetrical, offering more screen space corner-to-corner and creating a visually balanced look. This is unlike many smartphones where we do see slim side bezels but with a noticeably thicker chin.
Oppo Find X8 Pro display
While reviewing the devices, I watched several hours of streaming content and played some games on them. The displays never failed to impress. Both screens delivered sharp and vibrant visuals with natural tones. One standout feature of both devices is their support for Dolby Vision, which enhances the viewing experience by giving better contrast and vibrant colours.
There is one notable difference between the two models: the Find X8 has a flat display, while the Find X8 Pro offers a curved display. The curved edges on the Pro not only add a premium feel but also make the screen appear larger, providing a more immersive experience. That said, some users may prefer the practicality of the flat display, like me, as the flat surface gives this illusion of a more compact feel.
Before I got the Find X8 and Find X8 Pro, I was really excited to test and evaluate their performance. All because of the Dimensity 9400. Given the early rumours and benchmark testing, which hinted that this year the MediaTek’s Dimensity 9400 might end up offering the most powerful performance in the world of Android phones.
So, is that the case? I think we will know better once we also have Snapdragon 8 Elite phones out in the market. But one thing is certain: the Dimensity 9400 is powerful. In regular use, it did not see any lag on either of the phones. Both the Find X8 and the Find X8 Pro provided me with smooth experience when browsing, scrolling, and handling multiple apps in the background.
In games, however, I did notice some lag, which I believe could be because of the optimisation issues. The Dimensity 9400 is a new chip, and it is only now appearing in phones. I played BGMI, and on the Find X8, there was occasionally some lag. On the other hand, the Pro handled it better, probably because of better cooling, and even at the highest graphics settings the gaming experience was good. In games like Asphalt, I never once faced any issues. They ran buttery smooth.
I also run some benchmarks, which you can see here. The numbers are impressive, and seem to be in line with or better than what Qualcomm Snapdragon 8 Elite is scoring or is expected to score in upcoming phones.
The good chipset allows Oppo to offer a number of unique and useful AI features that are part of its ColorOS 15. I really liked the customisation options in ColorOS, along with AI features like Smart Summary, Tap to Share and Circle to Search. The colour scheme and design of the ColorOS is eye-pleasing. At the same time, the clutter-free layout and lack of bloatware were a pleasant surprise. While there are some extra apps, most of them are useful and can also be uninstalled if needed, which I appreciated.
All in all, as far as performance is concerned, both the Find X8 and Find X8 Pro are capable phones. The variants I reviewed had 16GB RAM, and this paired with the Dimensity 9400 made for a potent combo.
The Oppo Find X8 features a 5630mAh battery, while the Find X8 Pro is equipped with a larger 5910mAh battery. In terms of battery performance, both devices go on and on. The Find X8 lasted me around a day and a half with normal usage, including browsing, scrolling, camera use, and some casual streaming. On the other hand, the Pro variant impressed me with a battery life of almost two days. Of course, with heavier use, the battery performance varies, but it was still impressive overall.
In fact, in the PCMark battery test, the Find X8 achieved a battery life of 18 hours and 19 minutes, while the Pro lasted for an impressive 20 hours and 45 minutes. These are like some of the absolute best figures I have seen in a phone.
The Find X series is the one where Oppo brings its A game to the camera hardware. The Find X8 and the Find X8 Pro are the same. These are flagship phones with flagship hardware but their special emphasis is on the camera performance. To announce this, Oppo is again using Hasselblad, the iconic camera company. The Find X8 and the Find X8 Pro have a camera system that is tuned using Hasselblad technology, in particular for the colour science and image processing. Oppo calls the camera systems in the Find X8 and the Find X8 Pro Hasselblad Master Camera System.
The two phones are sure masters at capturing photos. The Find X8 has 3 rear cameras. The main camera uses a 50MP sensor with F1.8 lens. The zoom camera, which has a periscope lens with 3X zoom, too uses a 50-megapixel sensor. It has a F2.6 lens and an effective zoom length of 73mm. The ultra-wide camera too uses a 50 megapixel sensor, with a 15mm lens and 120 degree field of view. Of course, beyond the hardware the magic happens with colours and image processing. I’ve always appreciated Hasselblad-tuned cameras in phones, for example in OnePlus phones, and the Find X8 is no exception. The colours and details it delivers are impressive. Portrait shots are clear, with edges neatly carved to create a pleasing blur effect. Shadows are also managed well.
Low light photograph from Oppo Find X8 Pro
However, one thing that slightly bothered me was how indoor photos sometimes felt over-processed. Oppo has mentioned that the cameras use AI to process images, but in low-light indoor settings, the photos often appear darker or overly edited. That said, in good lighting and outdoor environments, the photos are excellent. The camera system made me fall in love with mobile photography. Like again. I found myself constantly pulling out my phone to capture moments — so much so that at a wedding that I recently attended, I ended up acting as an impromptu personal photographer for my friends. And I managed to get some really detailed and vibrant portraits – I feel like I should have charged them.
While the Find X8 is great, the Find X8 Pro truly shows what the Pro can offer in terms of both zoom capabilities and overall photo quality. The Find X8 Pro has one extra camera in its system: a 50MP telephoto shooter with 6X optical zoom and effective focal length of 135mm. I found the performance of the Pro similar to the Find X8, although the extra reach with the 6X lens is truly useful in certain conditions.
Another extra that you get with the Pro phone is the Quick Button, which can be handy. Although the functionality of the button is clear, I did not like its design. It is a capacitive button, sitting flush with the frame. This is an issue because unless you look at it is not always that easy and apparent to locate it just by touch. It just doesn’t feel like a button. It is also positioned slightly lower and that makes it finicky to click in one-handed — vertical camera mode — usage.
Then there are impressive AI features. One I like in particular is the Lightning Snap, which allows you to click photos of moving subjects without getting awkward frames. With the ability to process bursts of up to seven frames per second, both devices are fast enough to freeze some motion.
Now, what about the image quality in zoomed photos? Apart from the 3X and 6X optical zoom, the Find X8 and the Find X8 Pro also offer digital and AI-assisted zoom of up to 120X. AI is also used to process the zoom photos. Once you slick them, they initially appear slightly blurry. Then the AI processing kicks in to refine the details, offering surprisingly clear and detailed rich images. That said, this feature works best for objects rather than people. If you’re trying to capture a person from far away, the AI won’t reconstruct facial details effectively. However, for objects, the level of detail is truly commendable.
You can see some photos of Zoom in action here:
Oppo Find X8 Pro Zoom
In terms of video recording, both cameras excel with good stabilisation and Dolby Vision support across all lenses.
The camera experience is augmented by AI features like the AI Remove Reflection tool, which eliminates glass glare in photos taken through glass windows. Other tools like AI Clarity Enhancer and AI Eraser offer convenience while editing photos.
It is that time of the year. 2024 is sliding towards its end and 2025 is on the horizon. Like everything new, it is also a time for next-generation smartphones to arrive. The Oppo Find X8 and the Find X8 Pro are among the first of this new generation to arrive in India. These are flagship phones with flagship, and next-gen, hardware. They are setting the tone for the upcoming year.
Of course, for phone users this is all moot. What matters to them is this: Are the Find X8 and the Find X8 Pro worth buying? Given their performance, cameras and overall quality of hardware, the Find X8 sure seems like a phone worth its price. Yes, there are the OnePlus and Apples and Samsungs out in the market but the Find X8 offers enough to be an excellent option for you.
The Find X8 Pro, meanwhile, seems to be on pricier side compared to what it offers. A price of around Rs 85,000 would have made it a better deal, and a better competitor to the phones that usually dominate the ultra-premium segment in India.
